Let Pinterest Inspire…

pinterest-for-business

Many of you probably already know what Pinterest is and you may be using it.  Some of you don’t yet know exactly what Pinterest is.  Well, Pinterest is fairly new.  It is exciting, you can share your likes, your dislikes, and you can even promote your business with Pinterest!

Pinterest has been around for several years, but has only taken off in the past year.  In January of 2011, there were approximately 120,000 users on Pinterest.  A year later, that number jumped to over 6 million!

The primary users are women.  Depending on which statistics you see, 80 to 92% of the users are women.  The predominate ages of the users are between 25 and 44 years of age.

Users interact by sharing images.  This makes Pinterest unique from other social networks where tweets or posts are the primary means of interaction.

Pinterest is made up of boards where you share your favorite images by category.  Others can re-pin your images which may have caught their eye.  By re-pinning, they are able to add your images to one of their boards.  Below are copies of some of my own Pinterest boards.

This particular board (or bulletin board) above has pictures of some of the many “critters” Ladybug Wreaths adds to our special creations!

I am a sucker for creative, fun, and inspirational sayings.  I have them taped here and there in my home, on my desk, and in my shop.  So, naturally, I would make a board of “pinned” sayings.

And, as you might expect, color REALLY does something for me!  So, I made another board of things and places in beautiful colors which “inspire” me.  Yes… you caught it!  There is that “inspire” word again.

I am using Pinterest as one of my “Inspirations” in my life.  This is yet another inspiration which helps me put colors together in a wreath, an arrangement, or even when I am decorating a room, or an entire home.

So, how would you like to find out a little more about Pinterest and how you can start “pinning” on your own boards?

Pinterest is an online Billboard.  Here is Pinterest’s own stated goal:

“…to connect everyone in the world through the ‘things’ they find interesting. We think that a favorite book, toy, or recipe can reveal a common link between two people. With millions of new pins added every week, Pinterest is connecting people all over the world based on shared tastes and interests.”

To check this new site out, go to Pinterest.com.  Take a look around at the images, types, and categories.  You will notice about 20 categories.

As you looked through the various images and pins, I am sure that you saw things that inspired you!  You saw items that you drooled over!  There were also images that were just fascinating.

At this time, you have to be invited to get a Pinterest account.  You can request an invite from Pinterest or you can ask a friend who is on Pinterest to send you an invite.

Yes, Pinterest certainly IS more than just a social or fun bookmarking site. There is currently more traffic being sent to websites from Pinterest than You Tube, or even Face Book! Amazing, huh? I suspect you will want to get in on the ground floor of this fastest growing social networking site, just as I did!
